Philippians Study

Bible Study Material: A Life Worthy of the Gospel - Philippians Bible Study

Here is the page that contains the nine studies, which includes an overview of the book. For each text there is a "Study" and a "Leader's Guide".

One option would be to use the "Leader's Guide" for facilitating the conversation and send the "Study" link to your community group each week. This will give them access to the summaries for each study.

**Supplementary Homework:**This study of Philippians was initially written with homework that is designed to introduce seven Bible Study techniques. These techniques are introduced with reference to specific texts. However, they are key Bible study skills that can be applied to all Philippians or any book of the Bible. For those of you who want to take this semester as an opportunity to train your CG's how to study the Bible, you could supplement with these. I have provided a link and outlined the content below.

A Sample Schedule: If you wanted to include the homework, you might follow this sample schedule.

  • Week 1 - No Study, Cast Vision for Studying Philippians, Hand out and perhaps start the Overview Homework together as a group. This could involve reading the book in its entirety.

  • Week 2 - Do Overview Study, Hand out 1:1-11 Homework Cross Referencing & Word Studies

  • Week 3 - Do 1:1-11 Study, Hand out 1:12-26 Homework Gramatical-Logical Analysis

  • Etc. Notice that the homework should be handed out a week ahead of the Bible study it is indexed to.

Discussion Flow: Consider the following pattern for running your discussions.

  • Pray

  • Invite the group to share what they learned from their homework/time in the word throughout the week

  • Read the "Summary", "Author's Big Idea", "Fallen Condition Focus", and "Christ Centered Solution" statements as a group.

  • Jump into the Bible study questions.

  • Hand out the next week's homework and give any further instruction you may think is necessary.
