Cru Quiet Time Suggestions
What is a Quiet Time?

This refers to a time set aside by a person which is to be spent with God. Personal spiritual maturity can really accelerate when one has structured, consistent time alone with God.

What would be the purpose of a Quiet Time?
  • To enjoy fellowship with God.
  • To reflect on who God is and all that He has done for you.
  • To discover principles to direct your life.
  • To daily submit your life to God.
  • To understand how God would have you live your life.
Three Keys to a Meaningful Time with God:
  1. Environment
To get started, choose a good time and place.
    • Set aside a regular time each day. This develops consistency. Choose a time when you are alert -- give God your best time of day.
    • Find a place free from distractions. This helps in concentration. (Mark 1:35)
  2. Content
The backbone of a good Quiet Time is made up of Prayer and Bible Reading.
    • Begin with praise and adoration -- focus on God and not yourself. (see Psalm 28:7) (adoration is telling God that you love and appreciate Him.)
    • Ask God to search your heart. (see Psalm 139:23,24). Confess any sin that God may bring to your mind.
    • Spend time in prayer:
      • Thank God for things in your life.
      • Pray for personal needs.
      • Pray for others -- especially that friends would come to Christ.
    • Spend Time in the Bible: Here's a Simple Plan...
      • Choose a passage from the Bible to read and learn from.
      • Read the passage and write out simple observations.
      • Look for the main truth (the primary message) of the passage.
      • Think through how to apply this main truth to your life:
        1. What does this passage mean?
        2. Are there commands to obey?
        3. Are there promises to claim?
        4. What steps can I take to apply this to my life. (write them down).
  3. Get Started Today
This very quiet time may be the beginning of a lifetime of enjoying time with God. Take advantage of this opportunity to develop a habit for which you will be forever grateful!
